Recharge: Replacing Dead Batteries (BEDS Day Two!)

For someone who works 50+ hours a week, has a social life, dates, and a family… where do I find time for ME?

Scheduling time for ME around my life has been tough… but I’ve found that if I don’t make myself a priority, I soon start to deteriorate. Then, my job performance is affected, and frankly, I’m not a nice person to be around!

So, here’s how I recharge:

BEDS Kickoff: Introductions

So. You’ve either seen tweets, checked your blog dashboard, found a trackback somewhere, or you magically showed up on my site without any prior knowledge of my existance… and are reading my words. No matter how you got here, I’m stoked that you’ve found your way to me!

This post is for the BEDS Campaign! The BEDS Campaign is the brain child of Erik Mathew. He says:

I’ve noticed that people don’t really take the time to get to know each other anymore.  When was the last time you sat down with someone you barely know just to talk about life?  People don’t take the effort it sometimes takes to dig beneath the surface.  People are so much more than what they appear.  This campaign is a way to learn from each other.  It’s a way to make real, deep connections.

My name is Charissa. The first syllable sounds like car. There’s no L, the H is silent. If you’re really having issues with it, call me Rissa. I’m in my twenties. I don’t eat blue m&ms.

My Last Day: What I’ve Learned So Far

So for those of you who aren’t aware, I’m currently about 555 miles south of my house, in a tiny tiny Texan town. You’ve probably heard of it. I drove here by myself, for myself. I have grandparents and an aunt who live here as well.

As a solo roadtrip, I expected this to be a time of reflective inspiration; time where I could get my thoughts on track. Without going into detail, that very thing has happened. My relationships with my grandparents, my aunt and others have been strengthened. I was also able to forget about a lot of the crap stuff going on at home.

While I’ve been here, I:

  • picked okra the size of my hand
  • chopped my hair. :D
  • Made friends.
  • Learned that there’s no such thing as “too much school spirit”.
  • Inspired my grandfather to buy sparkly gold stretch pants. (DON’T ask.)
  • visited the Wal-Mart in a college town (trust me, it’s different than yours.)
  • Watched the Texans defeat the Cowboys. (woot!)
  • Covered a fig tree.
  • Discovered sweet tea.
  • Bought an amazing ring from my favourite jeweler
  • Bought another amazing ring. (Sense a theme here?)
  • Saw “Eat Pray Love” **blog review to come when I return home…**
  • Hacked my grandad’s password to type this blog…
  • Danced in a parking lot out of frustration.
  • Drove over 500 miles by myself.
  • Ate something called a concrete.
  • Managed to somewhat stay up-to-date with twitter… /sigh
  • Was made aware of some pretty hefty news… repeatedly.

I love this trip. I’m sad that today is my last day, but I’m excited to be able to come home and tell you all what I’ve done (in greater detail) and to show you all of my photos and video.

What’s your favourite trip you’ve ever taken? Comment/Reply/Answer!

Hi :)
You and Erik both seem like genuinely great people. From what I see, you make a great couple too! There should be more like you. I just wanted to let you know. Not that you don't already get it a lot. :P

anikk

Awwww, Anikk thanks so much! You’re a sweetheart. You’d be surprised the messages that Erik and I receive on Tumblr. :] Thank you so much for your sweet words. :] I’ll be sure and make sure he sees them. <3

Ever had that enormous feeling of “HOLY CRAP I LEAVE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS”?

It’s Tuesday afternoon. I leave for my trip tomorrow morning.

I still have to pack most of my stuff, purchase snacks and pack them, charge and sync about 3842039472034823 gadgets… and oh yeah, my 10 hour workday today is makin’ this all go so so smoothly. (I’m not sarcastic, am I?)

I’m pretty ridiculously stoked though. I won’t blog anything scintillating (stay tuned to my twitter feed) [available on the left sidebar as well] until a week from today, if all goes according to plan.

Should be exciting. I’ll be live tweeting the drive to and from, as well as posting pictures and whatnot.

Love.

Summer after high school when we first met, we made out in your mustang to Radiohead.
And on my 18th birthday we got matching tattoos; used to steal your parents’ liquor and climb to the roof, talk about our future like we had a clue…

The Red Fire Fly: Book and Soundtrack Release

Tonight, I am attending a gala for the release of “The Red Fire Fly” by Denver author Michael Wallace. An up-and-coming novel about time travel, salad spinners, a tiny red fly and a US Senator, it’s sure to please readers with a palate for science fiction literature.

This release party is also for the book’s accompanying soundtrack. Yes, the book comes with a soundtrack. Michael says,

“The book has references to the accompanying soundtrack songs, adding another dimension to the reader’s experience. Press play, open the book, sit back and enjoy!”

As soon as I have it, more information will be available on where to purchase the book, as well as the soundtrack.

Smile Friday: The “please make a piggy nose for this picture” edition.

Bahahaha. Highfives if you laughed as hard as I did. :p
